Coyote, antelope, pheasant and sharptail grouse — the same 150,000 private acres, the same camp, one party at a time.
Beyond the deer weeks
Deer are what most people come for, but the same country holds coyotes on the flats, pronghorn on the tableland above the breaks, wild pheasants in the shelterbelts and sloughs, and sharptail grouse out on the native grass. Every one of these hunts runs out of the same ranch home, with the same meals, guides and four-wheel-drive transportation.
Coyote hunting is priced per gun, per day, which makes it easy to add days to a deer hunt. Antelope, pheasant and grouse are priced by arrangement — tag numbers, group sizes and season dates move around, so call with your dates and we will tell you what is open and what it costs.
01 · Predator
Coyotes are year-round residents here, and the ranchers whose land we hunt are glad to see fewer of them. We hunt them the honest way: set up with the wind right on a rim or a flat, call, and be ready for a dog coming hard across open ground. Expect several setups a day and long shooting lanes.
There is no lottery and no tag to draw — just the appropriate South Dakota predator license, and we will point you to it. Bring a flat-shooting rifle or a shotgun with heavy loads, good binoculars, and clothing for sitting still in cold wind. Your guide brings the calls.

02 · Big game
Above the Cheyenne River breaks the country flattens into grass tableland, and that is antelope ground. Pronghorn use the same benches year after year, which makes this a hunt of glassing, planning and patient stalking rather than luck. Shots run longer than in the breaks — practice out to your limit.
Antelope licenses are limited and drawn, so the time to call is early in the year, well before the season is set. We send license applications to every client with a confirmed booking.

03 · Upland
South Dakota is pheasant country, and the private ground we hunt has the cover that holds birds: tree rows and shelterbelts against the wind, cattail sloughs in the low spots, weedy fence lines and standing crop edges. These are wild birds, and by mid-season they run before they fly.
Pheasant hunts suit a group. Blockers and walkers, a couple of dogs, a driven shelterbelt at mid-morning — six to twelve guns hunt this cover well, and bring your own dog if you like. Ring us with your group size and dates.

04 · Upland
Sharptails are the true prairie bird of this country. They live on the native grassland above and between the river breaks — the same pasture the cattle use — and they do not sit for you. A day of sharptails is a day of walking big country with your gun ready, because the flush comes when it comes.
That is exactly why people love it: no put-and-take birds, no crowds, just grass and the chance at a covey getting up wild at thirty yards. Early-season birds hold better; later in the fall they group up and get edgy. Grouse pairs well with a pheasant trip or a few coyote days.
